On 20th January, 1915 the 1st Wiltshire battalion of 7 Brigade, 3rd Division moved into trenches at Kemmel where they remained until relieved on 24th January At noon and then again at 4pm on 23rd January, they came under heavy shell fire from 6 inch howitzers which killed eight men and wounded another four. One of those killed was Harry Payne. |
